Neal Alger’s Blue Note Quartet originated in 2010 and has performed in all major Chicago jazz venues over the years. This ensemble is dedicated to reviving the lesser-known gems from the 1955-1970 period of the classic Blue Note Records catalog. Some composers represented are Joe Henderson, Hank Mobley, Jackie McLean, Horace Silver, Duke Pearson, Wayne Shorter, and many others.

Alger’s performance style with this group utilizes a concise, "less-is-more" improvisational approach. His sleek, single-note guitar lines often intertwine in tight unison with the saxophone, capturing the lithe and muscular energy of historic horn-driven jazz.
